Adaptation at Altitude
Increasing resilience and adaptive capacity of mountain communities and ecosystems to climate change.
The polar and high mountains are the planet’s barometers, telling us a great deal about the present
and future effects of climate change. In 2020, the work under this thematic area focuses on the issues
of climate change and its impacts on migratory species in mountain environments, and of waste, gender and climate change in the Himalayas. We will also be developing a state of environment
report for the Caucasus. Key external partners in this thematic area include UN Environment and
the Himalayan Climate Change Adaptation Programme (HICAP).
