Polar and Climate
The polar and high mountains are the planet’s barometers, telling us a great deal about the present and future effects of climate change.
Increasing temperatures, changes in precipitation and snow cover, together with pollution and dust, are accelerating the retreat of glaciers within the Andes mountain range and contributing to the water scarcity for both mountain communities and people living downstream.
The Atlas focuses on the status of water resources in the Andes, identifying existing vulnerabilities of mountain communities dependent on these resources and proposing possible adaptation strategies and policies to address water vulnerability and security.
