Droughts in the Anthropocene
The project Droughts in the Anthropocene will showcase and present selected case studies from around the world related to droughts and water
The world is facing a compounded crisis of food insecurity, with Nepal being deeply affected by it. The Green Resilient Agriculture Productive Ecosystems (GRAPE) project led by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) has tested over 40 socially inclusive, climate-resilient agricultural technologies and practices that focus on improving soil health, pest control, water access, and resilient crop management.
To promote this work, ICIMOD and GRID-Arendal co-produced a book presenting a holistic model of climate-resilient agriculture, featuring both widely adopted proven practices and site-specific solutions tested on local farms in Nepal. This book illustrates the power of a bottom-up approach that prioritizes farmers’ needs. The methods not only ensure sustainable food production but also address emerging issues, such as the extensive out-migration of men, which has resulted in the increasing feminisation of the agricultural labour force.
