The Abu Dhabi Blue Carbon Demonstration Project aimed to improve the understanding of carbon sequestration and the other ecosystem services that coastal and marine ecosystems provide in Abu Dhabi. The project identified options for the incorporation of these values into policy and management, leading to the sustainable use of these ecosystems and their services preserved for future generations. The project ran from 2012 to 2014 and was developed and managed by GRID-Arendal on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI).

Experience and knowledge gained from the project also helped guide other national blue carbon projects and international efforts.
