Pioneering blue carbon strategies for climate resilience and ocean sustainability
At GRID-Arendal, I lead efforts to advance nature-positive solutions within the blue economy, with a particular focus on blue carbon. My work harnesses the benefits and values of marine and coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes, to support local climate action, integrated environmental management, and the resilience of coastal and island communities. Through innovative science-policy initiatives, I work to integrate healthy coastal and ocean ecosystems, including their carbon sequestration potential, into climate mitigation strategies and sustainable development pathways. What I Bring
With over 25 years of experience across civil society, academia, and legislative sectors, I bring an interdisciplinary perspective to marine science, conservation, and policy. Having played a key role in the early uptake of blue carbon, I’ve spent the past 15 years helping advance it from the margins to the mainstream of global climate and development agendas. I work at the interface of scientific research, policy development, and market mechanisms to support the integration of blue carbon into climate and conservation strategies. My Focus Areas
In My Own Words
″Beneath the waves lie powerful climate solutions. By protecting our blue carbon ecosystems, we safeguard our planet's future and the communities that depend on these coastal and marine lifelines.″
