South Polar Skua (Catharacta maccormicki), Antarctic Peninsula
The South Polar Skua, which breeds in snow-free areas of Antarctica, sometimes associated with penguin rookeries, looks very similar as the Great Skua of the Northern hemisphere. The species is pelagic in the Southern winter and feeding at sea. During the breeding season it also predated on eggs and chicks of penguins and does some scavenging (as on the picture with the dead penguin) It winters as far North as Greenland, where it could be mistaken as Great Skua.
