Ngoc-Anh Nguyen Thi from GIZ Vietnam on their solution
Vietnam is often exposed to extreme weather events and climate change poses a major threat to the country. While investments in reducing the countries vulnerability have paid off, climate change still poses a major threat to the country as much of the country´s population and agricultural activities are located in coastal lowlands, where rising sea levels and extreme storms can have detrimental impacts on both the economy and local livelihoods.
Raising awareness in local communities on climate change adaptation, and strengthening their adaptive capacity and resilience of ecosystems are effective measures that contribute to reduce climate change impact.
GIZ is working with relevant provincial stakeholders and communities in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh to carry out pilot EbA measures of reforestation and rehabilitation of coastal protection forest along with livelihood development to strengthen the adaptive capacity of local communities towards impacts of climate change, mainstreaming EbA into climate change regional action plans. Many project partners have shown interest and commitments in integrating EbA solutions into current policy elaborating processes and daily works based on vulnerability assessments and capacity development measures.
