Peace building and Law of the Sea in the Pacific Ocean
This project works with 14 Pacific Islands Countries to finalise extended continental shelf boundaries.
With raising global consumption patterns, the amount of waste is increasing, and scrupulous waste management is threatened by the illegal trade of waste. In 2015, the UN Environment Programme has published a report on Waste Crime and Waste Risks which clearly indicated information gaps and weaknesses in enforcement mechanisms as well as low general awareness when it comes to waste crime issues. This project’s objective is to follow up on the main findings of the Waste Crime and Risks report. Building up on existing networks, GRID-Arendal will continue to work on project proposals on waste crime issues and on more specific thematic issues such as plastic waste trade, particularly focusing on Asia (e.g., China), a hot spot of mismanaged plastic problems.
