The Pyasina River is a 800km long river in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia which flows into the Kara Sea and freezes over between October and June. It runs through the Great Arctic Nature Reserve. In the past the waters were a very rich source of fish. The Northern part of the River is now almost completely empty of fish since contamination from the Norilsk industrial district made its way into the water. The area has special significance for moulting White-Fronted and Brent Geese, making it one of the largest moulting accumulation in the World. Human activities in the past may have had influence on the population of in particular Brent geese, as they are easy to catch during their moulting period.
