The BlueBRIDGE project is a collaborative project that will deliver cloud based tools (known as virtual research environments or VREs) to support science and management of marine resources. GRID-Arendal is developing two VREs as part of this project. The first will provide tools to report on the ecological features (e.g. seamounts, canyons, seagrass, mangroves etc) that are represented in marine protected areas across the globe. This VRE will allow countries to quickly develop reports on their protected areas which can be used to assist in marine spatial planning and reporting against Aichi target 11.
The second VRE will provide tools to investigate the links between mangroves and aquaculture development using satellite remote sensing data. This VRE will initially focus on Indonesia, which is recognised globally for its extensive mangroves. The tools developed in this VRE will be especially relevant to developing coastal states to inform their coastal management decision and will also have direct relevance to assessing Blue Carbon.
