The Challenge

Rugby as a tool for development to combat social inequalities, promote gender equality, and support climate action, in order to foster inclusion and social resilience.

The Project

GRID-Arendal is leading the third component of the project: Adoption of sustainable environmental and climate practices. Raising awareness and supporting federations to effectively integrate environmental and climate issues into their strategies, operations, and activities.

Our Transformative Approach

- Federation level needs assessments on sustainability
- Co-creation and adoption of Green Pledge
- structural changes in governing bodies

Why It Matters

Sports inspire and education empowers, together they are powerful drivers of sustainability. Sports connect with billions, modeling values of teamwork and respect while showcasing greener practices. Education builds the knowledge and skills future generations need to protect the planet. Combined, they create a culture of responsibility and action that helps communities, institutions, and individuals contribute to achieving the SDGs and securing a more sustainable future.

Competences (Capabilities for Change)

Sports and its values are a formidable means to engage and inform people on how to improve sustainability and achieve national and global SDG targets. Through collaborative engagement, immersive storytelling, and leadership in governance, the project will drive a long-term shift towards more sustainable events, the education of future generations, and stronger efforts from institutions and sponsors.
