Media Empowerment for Global Plastic Treaty Negotiations (INC)
A media initiative aimed at empowering journalists from the Global South to effectively cover the INC.
For 35 years, GRID-Arendal has been committed to producing and sharing environmental knowledge, but in today’s fast-paced and often overwhelming media landscape, simply reporting scientific facts is no longer enough to drive public interest or political action. As climate fatigue, anxiety, and news avoidance rise, there is a growing need for solution-focused storytelling and innovative communication to keep environmental issues at the forefront. At the heart of our mission is the belief that environmental knowledge should lead to change—by making nature’s voice heard, shaping media narratives, and engaging more deeply in public discourse. Through this project, we aim to develop a new approach to outreach and communication, using the constructive framework to train communication professionals and journalists.
GRIDs role in this activity?
GRID-Arendal plays a key role in strengthening environmental communication by training journalists, building capacity, organizing webinars, and developing accessible, practical tools. We work closely with UNEP’s communication team, the Constructive Institute, and global media networks to promote solution-focused storytelling and support journalists in covering climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
