Norwegian Blue Forests Network (NBFN)
The network’s goal is to advance the blue forest approach in addressing climate change and meeting the SDGs
GRID-Arendal’s Role:
GRID-Arendal plays a central role in the Norwegian Blue Forests Network (NBFN) by designing, developing, hosting, and maintaining the network’s official website. The site, built using WordPress with a custom theme developed by GRID-Arendal, serves as a key platform for sharing knowledge, research, and resources related to the conservation and sustainable management of blue forests. Fully available in both English and Norwegian, the website facilitates access to information for a broad audience. Through this platform, GRID-Arendal helps promote collaboration among NBFN’s partners and raise awareness of the critical importance of blue forests in climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation.
Project Description: Norwegian Blue Forests Network (NBFN)
The Norwegian Blue Forests Network (NBFN) is a collaborative initiative focused on promoting the sustainable management and conservation of blue forests—coastal and marine ecosystems such as kelp forests, seagrass meadows, and salt marshes. These ecosystems play a vital role in sequestering carbon (blue carbon), supporting marine biodiversity, and providing essential ecosystem services such as coastal protection and sustaining fisheries.
NBFN brings together stakeholders from research institutions, government, industry, and non-governmental organizations to share knowledge, conduct research, and drive policy changes that protect these ecosystems. The network’s work emphasises the role of blue forests in climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as in promoting ecosystem resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
The website supports NBFN’s goal of fostering collaboration and sharing the latest research by offering resources and updates in both English and Norwegian. This bilingual approach ensures wider accessibility and engagement. For more information about the network’s partners and activities, please visit NBFN Partners.
