Informal waste workers in developing countries substantially contribute to the fight against plastic pollution. GRID-Arendal, in collaboration with strategic partners, has developed a Toolkit to build-capacities for women in the informal waste sector. With the support of GIZ, GRID-Arendal and the Kisumu Waste Pickers Welfare Association in Kenya will organize a workshop to implement the toolkit in Kisumu community. The activity will begin with identifying training needs, particularly focusing on the challenges women face, and preparing for adult learning and facilitation approaches using more visuals, role-playing, and storytelling. A group of trainers will prepare local facilitators, who will conduct a five-day training workshop in Kisumu community. GRID-Arendal intends to return to the community to assess the effectiveness of the training.
