Small Asian Mongoose (Herpestes javanicus), Big Island, Hawaii

In an attempt to control a rising rat populations, in 1883 Small Asian Mongoose, originally from India, were introduced to the Big Island. They have spread widely and are today a major threat for endemic species, such as Hawaiian geese.
