The Dutch-German-Danish Wadden Sea is the most important spring staging area of 2 populations of knots along the East Atlantic Flyway. The species breeds with several subspecies in the circumpolar High Arctic and belongs to the most extreme migratory shorebirds. The one on the photo has just refueled fat reserves enabling it to fly non-stop to Iceland or Northern Norway on its way to Northern Greenland or North-East Canada.
