The Arctic is a vital area for Seabirds (birds that spend most of their time in coastal waters or over the ocean) and the European Arctic is home to an estimated 25 million, all of which find their food in the sea and breed on land. The Red Knot is one such bird, flying extremely long distances to reach the Arctic and utilising many stops along the way. There are six major global bird migration routes to the Arctic, where 24 hour sunlight in Summer creates an extremely fertile environment in the Arctic Tundra.
