The Baltic Sea is sick. It suffers from algal blooms, oxygen-depleted zones, loss of biodiversity and declining fish populations because of massive amounts of nutrients flow into the Baltic every year. This process is called eutrophication and it literally suffocates the sea. This story map is meant as a platform to update the story of eutrophication. By showing the close relationships between the Baltic Sea and citizens, farmers, policy-makers and retailers, the aim is to highlight opportunities for change through better communication and cross-sectoral cooperation.
