20 Years of Action – Indigenous Peoples at the Arctic Council
The Arctic Council celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016. One of its unique and most important features is the presence of Indigenous Peoples (called Permanent Participants) working directly with state representatives. The role Indigenous Peoples have played over the last 20 years has been decisive and has helped determine the direction and evolution of the council. These three Story Maps chronicle the role Indigenous Peoples have played at the Arctic Council, the influence they have had on the development of Arctic environmental politics, and how their voices have been heard internationally.
