The European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) consists of more than 160 organisations assembling marine data, products and metadata to make these fragmented resources more available to public and private users relying on quality-assured, standardised and harmonised marine data which are interoperable and free of restrictions on use. EMODnet is currently in its second development phase with the target to be fully deployed by 2020.

GRID-Arendal is involved in EMODnet through the bathymetry project. GRID-Arendal coordinates the collation of bathymetric data and metadata for the Norwegian Sea Region and the production of a final bathymetry model for this region. This model feeds into a standardized European bathymetry model (http://portal.emodnet-bathymetry.eu/). The bathymetry model forms an important component for the development of European seabed habitat maps (http://www.emodnet-seabedhabitats.eu) as well as the supporting marine research, planning and development.
