The largest pillar of Iceland's economy is fishery. The country can therefore be considered a leading example of how to implement sustainable fishery. The other main economic basis of the country are nature-based tourism and hydro- and geothermal energy. Iceland is seen as a country with high potential to develop leading examples of sustainable development. As the global society is developing "Sustainable Development Goals", Iceland may be challenged to demonstrate the way.
