How is life in Kristiansandsfjorden? by Atle Torvik Kristiansen, senior environmental consultant at Multiconsult, who presents the status in a newreport commissioned by Kristiansand municipality and the Fjord Group. The Kristiansandsfjord has long been one of Norway's most polluted fjords. The pollution has been highly complex with various pollutants from many sources such as industrial emissions, shipping, sewage and landfills. Anumber of measures over the past 25 years mean that we can now swim and eat the fish here. The results from the environmental monitoring showthat the fjord is improving, but there is still some way to go before the goal in the water regulations of good ecological and chemical condition.Improving the state of the environment will require the efforts of many. The challenges are complex. One step in this work is a comprehensivereport on the Kristiansandsfjord, which the "Fjord Group" and Kristiansand municipality have commissioned as a joint venture. The report that ispresented contains a comprehensive assessment of the development of the state of the environment over time in the fjord, an assessment ofoverall measures in the future to achieve environmental goals and also the need for changes in further monitoring.
