Blue Carbon
This theme advances innovative nature-based coastal and marine climate solutions.
Cartoonist Jim Toomey – of Sherman’s Lagoon fame – has developed a short video intended to raise awareness of the importance of ocean life in combating climate change. The ‘Fish Carbon’ video uses animation and humor to explain in clear and simple language the roles that marine vertebrates play in oceanic carbon capture and storage.
This video was produced by GRID-Arendal in collaboration with Blue Climate Solutions, a project of The Ocean Foundation, as part of the UN Environment/Global Environment Facility Blue Forests Project. It was made possible with support from the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Curtis & Edith Munson Foundation.
This video is part of a Storymap - Exploring ‘oceanic blue carbon’, how the actions of marine life such as fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals may have roles to play in climate change mitigation. Available at: url.grida.no/oceanicbc
