1992 has been a significant year for GRID-Arendal. At the opening in 1989, the new institution was granted a trial period of three years to prove its raison d'être. This test period is now successfully completed, and the final proof will come in May 1993 when UNEP's new Executive Director Elizabeth Dowdeswell will sign an agreement with the government of Norway on the future operation of GRID-Arendal.
