Economic case studies in the Virunga and Kyrgyz mountains

28 Oct 2024

Two economic analysis termed Targeted Scenario Analysis (TSA), commissioned by UNEP’s Vanishing Treasures programme, compared the economic impact of two agricultural scenarios: the ongoing ‘Business-as-Usual’ dominant farming methods which are highly vulnerable to climate change and already experiencing decreasing economic returns, with a Sustainable Ecosystem Management scenario in which climate-smart agriculture integrates sustainable farming practices to address climate challenges.

These policy briefs includes the main results of the TSA and policy recommendations to address those challenges. These briefs were prepared by GRID-Arendal and the UN Environment Programme in collaboration with the authors of the study. It received financial support from the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg through the Vanishing Treasures programme.
